Are you looking forward to Halloween? We sure are at my house!! I’ve got one dinosaur and one dementor from Harry Potter. I thought it would be fun to share this FREE Halloween interactive book. You can use it to target positional concepts and 1-2 step directions. Or, expand the activity by using the short story to work on answering wh-questions (who, what doing, what, where), formulating sentences, describing objects, comparing and contrasting, and core vocabulary. Check out our Halloween Therapy Ideas blogpost HERE for more fun Halloween books, crafts, and songs!
Assembly Directions:
- Cut along the dashed lines for pages 2-9.
- Cut out the pictures/squares. Laminate and bind the book.
- Place 2-3 Velcro dots on each page.
- For each Velcro dot, dot with a marker so students can see the Velcro choices.
To complete your therapy session, add in a spooky recipe such as Dirt Cups and Worms: https://www.thespruceeats.com/pudding-dirt-cups-dessert-recipe-2097682, a fun Halloween craft like a washi tape pumpkin or a foil candy corn craft for the fine motor piece, or a cute song such as the Monster Mash or Five Little Pumpkins! Make sure to have your students act out the actions in the song with their hands to incorporate bilateral movements and following directions (counting with fingers, running, shaking finger “no”, pointing to self, moving both hands like the wind, etc.).
Candy Corn Craft Directions:
- On either construction paper or tin foil, use black paint or black tempera paint sticks to draw a candy corn outline.
- Paint the top section white, the middle section orange, and the bottom section yellow.
- Once the paint dries, cut out the candy corn.
Add in handwriting/writing and sentence formulation by having your students describe their pumpkin or candy corn pictures! Have fun with it!!!
