I love using books in therapy sessions for targeting paragraph comprehension, wh-questions, inferencing and predicting. Some of my favorite back-to-school books include:
- We Don’t Eat Our Classmates: A Penelope Rex Book by Ryan T. Higgins
- The Pigeon HAS to Go to School! by Mo Willems
- Pete the Cat Rocking My School Shoes by James Dean
- Miss Nelson is Missing! by Harry G. Allard Jr
- If You Take a Mouse to School by Laura Numeroff
But, there are times when I just need something quick that I can grab and go. It can be challenging to find short yet engaging stories to work on wh-questions and paragraph comprehension.
That’s where my Back to School reading comprehension passages come in handy! These school-themed passages are perfect for making comprehension practice more engaging and relevant. The scenarios are designed to help students connect with the material, while the questions target a variety of skills such as answering wh-questions, predicting, inferencing, sequencing, recall, and more.
This resource is a great way for therapists to support language development and reading comprehension during therapy sessions. It’s easy to prep and perfect for Kinder through 3rd grades.
