You’ve made it through the first few weeks of therapy. Now what? Don’t worry! I’ve got you covered with some easy, LITTLE to NO PREP fall speech therapy ideas that your students will LOVE!
1. Fall Books. Books are one of my favorite therapy tools. You can use them over several weeks to target a wide variety of goals including articulation, predicting, inferencing, sequencing, story retell, describing, sentence formulation and expansion, and so much more!
- We’re Going on a Leaf Hunt by Steve Metzger
- There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Leaves by Lucille Colandro
- Fletcher and the Falling Leaves by Julia Rawlinson
- The Leaf Thief by Alice Hemming
- Apples by Gail Gibbons
- Amelia Bedelia’s First Apple Pie by Herman Parish
- Apple Picking Day by Candice Ransom
- Don’t Throw It to Mo by David A. Adler
- Hiking Day by Anne Rockwell
Download your free Fall Interactive Book here. You can use it to target positional concepts and 1-2 step directions. Or, expand the activity by using the pictures to work on answering wh-questions (who, what doing, what, where), formulating sentences, describing objects, comparing and contrasting, and core vocabulary.
2. Fall Cooking Activities. My students absolutely LOVE cooking activities. This is such a fun way to incorporate functional skills into your therapy sessions while giving students a break from normal therapy sessions.
Recipe Ideas:
- Slow cooker apple cider (Make this in one larger group, or have students add to the recipe throughout your day)
- Fall trail mix
- No bake pumpkin pie (Here’s an easy recipe we’ve used in the past.)
3. Fall Movement Activities. The temperature is cooling off and the leaves are changing. What student doesn’t love spending some time outside?
- Go on a leaf hunt
- Build a scarecrow
- Carve a Pumpkin
- Take a fall walk, or make it a scavenger hunt and look for different items along the way
